Abstract Submissions

Abstract submissions for the 50th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian Division of the International Academy of Pathology are now open and will close on 27 February 2026.

Please read all guidelines carefully before submitting your abstract.

How to Write Abstracts

An interactive online guide explaining how to prepare an effective abstract that meets reviewer criteria is available via Dr Amanda Charlton: Writing Abstracts

Abstract Requirements

  • Download and use the official IAP Abstract Template 2026. Abstracts not following the template will be rejected.
  • Abstracts may be submitted on any topic relevant to anatomical pathology.
  • Only original scientific material, not previously published or presented, may be submitted.
  • All submissions will be reviewed by the Abstract Review Committee. Abstracts not meeting formatting or minimum quality standards will be rejected.
  • Results must be included. Abstracts without available results should be submitted at a later date. Placeholders such as “results will be discussed” will be rejected.
  • The submitting author must pay the meeting registration fee by 10 April 2026. Abstracts without a paid registration will be withdrawn.

Outcome of Abstracts

  • Corresponding authors will be notified of the review outcome three weeks after the submission closing date.
  • Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to display a printed poster in the Exhibition Area.
  • High-quality abstracts may also be selected for an Oral Presentation (in addition to a poster). Outcome notifications will specify the presentation date, time, and venue.

Poster Preparation

  • Prepare a printed poster no larger than A0 (1189 × 841 mm) in portrait format.
  • All poster presenters must generate a QR code linking to their poster and email it to info@iap-aus.org.au two days prior to the event.
  • Posters should use font sizes that are readable from 1–2 metres away.
  • Posters should be visually engaging with minimal text and strong use of graphics (photos, illustrations, charts, plots, infographics). Visual impact is an important judging criterion.
  • Please do not reproduce your abstract as a text block on the poster.
  • Including a QR code linking to the PDF poster and/or abstract is encouraged.

Poster Hanging and Viewing

  • The IAP Secretariat will allocate each presenter a poster board number. Velcro will be supplied.
  • Posters should be set up between 7:00 am and 9:00 am on Friday, 29 May 2026 and remain on display for the duration of the conference.
  • Posters will be viewed during session breaks. Presenters are encouraged to stand near their poster during these times to discuss their work and engage with attendees.
