CALL FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS

FOR THE 50TH ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING

 

Abstract submissions for the 50th Annual Scientific Meeting for the Australasian Division of the International Academy of Pathology is open and will close on 27th February 2026.

Please read all the below guidelines carefully before submitting your abstracts.

Abstract requirements

  • Download and use the Abstract templateIAP Abstract Template 2026, Abstracts not following the template will be rejected.
  • Abstracts may be submitted on any topic relevant to anatomical pathology.
  • Only original scientific material which has not been previously published or presented at a conference may be submitted.
  • Abstracts will be reviewed by the Abstract Review Committee, who will reject any abstract not meeting formatting or minimum quality standards.
  • Results must be included. If no results are available, submit the Abstract at a future date when results are available.  Placeholders such as ‘results will be discussed’ will be rejected.
  • The submitting author must pay the meeting registration by 10th of April 2026.  Abstracts without a registration payment will result in the abstract being withdrawn.

 

Outcome of Abstracts

  • All abstracts will be reviewed by the Abstract Review Committee and the corresponding author will be notified of the outcome three weeks after the closing date.
  • Authors of accepted abstracts are invited to hang a printed poster in the Exhibition area for viewing.
  • Abstracts of high calibre may also be selected for Oral Presentations (in addition to a Poster) where the presenter will be requested to do an Oral Presentation using PowerPoint slides. The outcome email will specify the presentation date, time and venue.

 

Poster preparation

  • Prepare a printed poster no larger than A0 (1189 x 841mm) in portrait format.
  • All Poster presenters should generate a QR code of their poster and email to the IAP Secretariat at info@iap-aus.org.au 2 days prior to the event.
  • Posters should have a text font size that is clearly readable by viewers standing 1-2m away.
  • Posters are a form of visual communication; effective posters have limited text and maximise the graphic elements such as photos, illustrations, charts, plots and infographics. The visual effectiveness is a significant element of the poster judging.
  • Do not repeat your abstract as a text block in the poster.
  • Including a QR code to sharing the pdf of your poster +/- abstract is encouraged.

 

Poster hanging and viewing

  • The IAP Secretariat will allocate a poster board number to hang your poster. The IAP will supply the velcro needed to hang your poster.
  • Posters should be set up between 7:00 am and 9:00 am on Friday the 29th of May and should remain on display throughout the conference days.
  • Posters will be viewed during the session breaks. When people are viewing the posters, take the opportunity to be available near your poster to discuss your work. This is an opportunity to engage informally with others and exchange of scientific knowledge.

 

Poster Awards

  • There are two categories of Awards offered by the Australasian Division of the IAP at its Annual Scientific Meetings namely Pathologist Category and Registrar Category.
  • Single case reports are not eligible for awards.
  • Abstracts are assessed according to the abstract marking schedule. Posters are assessed according to the poster marking schedule.
  • The award winners are identified by adding scores from both the abstract and the poster.
  • The Poster Awards will be presented during the Annual Scientific Meeting.  Venue and Time will be indicated by the Secretariat.

 

Value of the Awards

  • The First Prize winner of each category will receive AUD $500 and a Certificate.
  • There will be two commendations made for both categories.  They will receive a Certificate of Commendation.
  • All other Abstract corresponding authors will receive a Certificate of Participation.

 

Publication of Abstracts

Accepted abstracts will be published in a special issue of the journal Pathology. This can be cited in your CV.
