President’s Welcome
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I extend a warm invitation to the 49th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian Division of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP), to be held in Sydney from May 30 to June 1, 2025. On behalf of the executives, board, convenors, speakers, and secretariat, I am delighted to welcome you to this esteemed gathering.
As the largest professional body uniting Anatomical Pathologists and trainees across Australasia, the IAP ASM serves as a premier forum where specialists and world-renowned experts come together to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and advance the field of anatomical pathology.
Modern anatomical pathology transcends scientific boundaries, requiring collaboration with other medical disciplines and engagement with broader societal needs. The 2025 program reflects this ethos, offering a variety of innovative platforms to connect with experts and introducing a special forum for our colleagues from the Pacific Islands.
We are privileged to host three distinguished keynote speakers:
- Professor Gregory Y. Lauwers, who will share his unparalleled expertise in upper gastrointestinal pathology.
- Professor Min En Nga, offering insights into cytopathology and her contributions to pathology education.
- Professor Joaquín J. García, presenting the latest in digital pathology and its transformative potential. He will also lead the Saturday Masterclass on Salivary Gland Pathology.
In addition, we are proud to feature:
- Dr. Ian Brown, delivering the Vincent McGovern Memorial Lecture.
- Professor Wendy Cooper, presenting the Sunday Masterclass on Lung Pathology.
New for 2025 are the Sunday afternoon short courses, focusing on Gynaecological, Gastrointestinal, Hematolymphoid Pathology, and Dermatopathology, along with Boot Camps for registrars on Cytology, and Small Biopsy Liver & Renal Pathology.
The highly popular Meet the Experts Sessions will return, covering Gastrointestinal, Digital & Soft Tissue Pathology, and Cytopathology, offering opportunities to engage directly with keynote speakers and other experts. Our Companion Sessions will continue throughout the conference, providing additional avenues for learning and collaboration.
We are deeply grateful to our sponsors for their invaluable support in introducing cutting-edge technologies to anatomical pathology. Please take the time to engage with them and explore advancements that enhance our practice.
Online registration and Call for Abstracts will open in mid-December, with prior notification sent to all members. Please visit this conference website regularly for updates and additional information as the event approaches.
I look forward to welcoming you to Sydney in 2025 as we come together to celebrate and advance the dynamic field of anatomical pathology.
Warm regards,
Priyanthi Kumarasinghe
